If you want a recommendation based on Yelp, Siri is pretty good at making them.
I don’t trust Yelp, but sometimes they have useful reviews. I asked Siri for a car wash in my neighborhood and it gave me a highly rated place from Yelp. I liked the place and it was worth a bit of a drive.
Siri has steadily been gaining usefulness. At first I didn’t find her useful at all. Now you can almost ask it anything and it will display an answer. It still doesn’t know easy things it should know, but I’m sure in time Apple will correct that.
Just as a test I tried asking it 15% of a number, and then of a dollar value like $15.73. It had the right answer immediately. That would be useful for many people instead of having an app for that. It also seems to respond to questions faster than it used to. Apple has slowly improved the speed as well.
This wasn’t mean to be a Siri review, but more of a general observation why I enjoy Apple products. In Windows, updates don’t always make things better and often make things worse. Siri didn’t require updating other than updating the OS which for most people is no big deal.
Remember when I spoke about earlier that technology can help remember and customize our environments? Siri is the precursor to tools that work on making your environment the same wherever you are.
The problem here is that other companies don’t want to play ball with Apple. Toyota for example said they would work with Apple Car play and then pulled out of that agreement. I can understand why other companies want to push their proprietary product, but it is not what their customers want or expect. For that reason and many others my next car will be a Tesla and I will customize it in the way I want.
The future is in customization and recommendations that really value your values.
